After five years of work and restoration, the Museum of Fashion and Costume finally opens its doors. An exceptional place that invites the public to discover custom-designed exhibition spaces in the heart of the building, including a large gallery on the first floor.
For its first exhibition, Collections-Collection, the museum brings together two collections located at opposite ends of Provence. This fusion provides an extraordinary richness to the celebration of the history of costume in the French Mediterranean region and the history of textiles. Through a chronological journey, this exhibition offers the public a comprehensive view of fashion in Provence since the 18th century. The emblematic costumes or key pieces from the Costa and Pascal collections finally find their place in the display cases of this much-awaited new museum.
At the request of the Fragonard House, Charles Fréger has created for the future Museum of Fashion and Costume the only permanent artwork, featuring Arlésiennes backlit. Between reality and imagination, this internationally renowned photographer focuses on groups and their external symbols. Insatiable, he travels the globe and creates vibrant portrait series that capture individuals in their environment, questioning the creation of archetypal figures. Between poetry and pictorial rigor, his work highlights the collective: whether it be uniforms, work clothes, or brightly colored masquerade costumes.
